Elinor Duffey Tanner, 86, of Charlottesville passed into glory on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Born September 23, 1928, in Bermuda, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen Duffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roger Clay Tanner, and her brother, Francis Duffey. Mrs. Tanner is survived by two sons, Craig and Jeff Tanner; daughters, Deborah Tanner and Angela Tanner Dillon and her husband, Steve; six grandchildren, Rhett, Neelie, Morgan, Madison, Jacob Tanner, and Jolee Blankenship and her wife, Charlotte Hartle; and one great grandchild, Remington Tanner. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Tanner was a nurse for many years, working at Martha Jefferson Hospital, and also in private practices in Charlottesville. She was very active in her church, and her faith in the Lord was of utmost importance in her life. Elinor was a deeply dedicated follower of Jesus Christ, active in spreading the Gospel message boldly and simply, with enthusiasm that captured many hearts for the Lord, and mentoring many in intercessory prayer. She had a lifelong love of reading and books, which she passed along to her children. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and needlepoint, creating many lovely pieces through the years. The family would like to thank Rosewood Village and The Laurels of Charlottesville for their loving care and assistance over the past 8 years. A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Teague Chapel. Inurnment will be private at Fairview Christian Church Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
