William "George" Wingate Jr.

George Wingate, 51, of Denver, NC went to his homecoming on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at a local Charlotte hospital.

He was born on May 11, 1959 to the late William George and Billie Ramsey Wingate Sr. in Charlotte, NC. He always loved being around his family, camping and his pets, “Buddy” and “Betty Boop”. He was employed for 32 years at Spencer Gifts Warehouse in Pineville, NC.

Survivors include his wife and best friend Van Phillips Wingate of Denver, NC; brother Johnny Wingate of Denver; sister Wanda Hindi of Tallassee, Alabama; brothers in law Roger Phillips (Pat) of Indian Land, SC, Mike Phillips (Carolyn) of Mooresville, NC, David Phillips (Mitzi) of Pineville, NC; many dear nieces, nephews, friends, all who will truly miss him and a large extended family at Spencer Gifts. George was preceded in death by his in-laws, Bob and Rosa Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 3:00 to 5:00-p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. Services will be held on Monday August 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Stough Memorial Baptist Church, 705 Lakeview Drive, Pineville, NC 28134 with Rev. Rodney Cripps and Rev Steve All officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, 211 Marvin Rd., Indian Land, SC 29707.
