I am Bill DeVore; born William Newton DeVore, II on September 20, 1960, to William Newton & Julia Coleman DeVore of Greenwood, SC. I am the fourth of five children and I am the only son. Spoiled? Indeed I am and I’ve loved and cherished every moment of it. My family is the proverbial "Brady Bunch." A loving, caring, close-knit family. Mom, the nurturing teacher & home-maker who couldn't prepare a bad meal if she tried (oh, the lemon pound cake that I can smell & taste even now) and Dad, the outdoorsman and hard-working civil engineer who taught me to garden, hunt & fish and the life-skills I needed to grow into the man I am and that he wanted me to be. My four sisters, Jac (Jackie Roark), D (Dianne Lanning), Deb (Debbie Brunson) and Cara (Caroline Groshe-Holz); oh the childhood we had; playing, picking and tattling on each other but above all else, loving each other through thick and thin. And the adulthood we have; sharing our life stories, our ups & downs, our advice for each other and the "don't tells" (ha!) but always the common theme - our love, admiration and affection for one another. Do I have a "favorite" sister as I often joked? Of course I do. Each one of you is my “favorite.” I love each of you.
My beautiful wife, Terry; where, oh where to begin? I loved you from the moment we met. You are the answer to a multitude of my prayers. You complete me in every way possible. You are the missing puzzle-piece to my life; my very being. You are a rock; the rock; my rock. You often joke that you picked up with the "spoiling" where my family left off - it's 100% true, you did, and I love and cherished each and every moment. Terry, I love you and adore you to the very depths of my soul, and I forever will. You are my first, my last, my everything.
Our two sons, William III (Bill), my namesake, and Coleman, named after my mother. Two of the happiest days of my life were when Terry came to my office with the "I'm pregnant!" news and then the days they both were born. My fondest memories include our playing, gardening, fishing and growing together; sometimes along different, but parallel paths, and always with the utmost love for each other. I could not be more proud of either of you for the men you have grown to become. You both have blindingly bright futures ahead. Please don't rush through it, but instead, enjoy the journey. I love you both. Bill is married to Kellee Ann DeVore, a sweetheart in her own right. Bill and Kellee Ann have a son, Dru (William Newton DeVore IV); my first grandchild! And his being a namesake is merely icing on the cake. Thrilled is a vast understatement! Coleman is married to Kayla DeVore. Kayla is a loving sweetheart as well.
I'm a Clemson University graduate. BSCE 1982. My blood unquestionably runs orange. Go Tigers! I was a civil engineer for Duke Energy and/or its subsidiaries for 21 years. Many lasting friendships were kindled and enjoyed there. My true passion, however, is real estate; brokerage and investing. Terry and I owned and operated TNT Properties for 21+ years. Again, many fond friendships have been developed and nourished in our real estate endeavors.
The mountains of North Carolina, in particular Little Switzerland, North Carolina have always been a favorite destination. I truly cherish and will forever hold dear the many times Terry and I spent there at our “TreeHouse” with each other and with family and friends.
Following a short memorial service on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 am at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, in Mint Hill, NC, with a visitation to follow, where everyone is encouraged to wear Clemson colors, my ashes will be spread by my family along The Blue Ridge Parkway. Come see the sights with me sometime. Tempus fugit.
