Wayne A Muth

LCDR. Wayne Allen Muth, U.S. Navy (retired) 84, formerly of Morgantown WV, died Thursday Oct. 6, 2016 at Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Muth on Oct. 6, 1999.

He was born on March 25, 1932, in Denver, Co. He was the son of the late Elmer and Ada Muth.

He is survived by his children John and Patty Muth, of Matthews, NC.; Susan and Vic Howser of LaGrange, GA; Carol and Phil Iapalucci of Granger, IN; brother-in-law Jim DeVries; five nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren, Brian and Madisan Muth, Lauren and Tyler Guy, Kristen Muth, Jennifer and Richard Moyer, Mark Howser, Stephanie Iapalucci, James Iapalucci, Kathryn Iapalucci; two great grandchildren, Ricky Moyer and Jack Moyer.

Wayne earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado and his Master’s Degree and PhD from Iowa State University. He was Professor Emeritus at West Virginia University and was also a proud retired member of the US Navy. After completing his active duty in the Navy, his professional accomplishments included working for Martin-Marietta as a Research Scientist on the Titan Missile, establishing the Computer Science Department at Southern Illinois University, becoming the Director of the Computer Center at West Virginia University, and finishing his career as Chairman of Statistics and Computer Science at West Virginia University.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and provided us with a wonderful childhood. He enjoyed our family vacations to Ocean Isle Beach, NC for the past 17 summers and prior to that at our family cottage in Bass Lake, IN.

Cremation services will be provided by McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Morgantown.
