Wayne was a loving husband to his wife, Olean Mills who preceded him in death and a caring father to his son, Johnny Petty and wife Ruby. He is beloved to all of his family.
Wayne retired from the City of Charlotte – Street Maintenance Division.
Wayne attended Eastway Baptist Church in Charlotte for the last several months, previously having been a Deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Indian Trail, North Carolina.
Wayne is survived by his son, Johnny Petty (Ruby); two sisters, Mary Oliver and Carolyn Templin; one brother, Homer Mills; two grandsons, Shawn Petty (Holli) and Derik Petty (Jennifer); seven great grandchildren, Auburn Petty, Ashlyn Petty, Ethan Petty, Eli Petty, Tyler Petty, Jeremy Conrad and Kayla Judy and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Sunday, March 11 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm in the Paul L. Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home.
Reverend Hugh Foy will be officiating. Erin Fox Clough will be the soloist.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Forest Lawn West Funeral Home.
