“Gin”
Mrs. Virginia “Gin” Duggan Turner, of Charlotte entered her heavenly home on August 15, 2010.
Born in Watkinsville, Georgia on January 30, 1917, Gin was a long-time resident of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Wofford Bates Turner, her parents, Arch and Katie Duggan, and her brother, Al Duggan. She is survived by two sons; David C. Turner of Charlotte, and John C. Turner, and daughter-in-law, Karen Turner, of Raleigh. She was affectionately called “MiMi” by her grandchildren, Mark C. Turner of Durham, Christan T. Holt and husband, Brian Holt of High Point, and Kyle M. Turner and wife, Emily of Raleigh; two great grandchildren, twin brothers Gabriel A. Holt and Aidan C. Holt, also of High Point. Also, by nieces, Kathryne Bailey, Sally Taylor, Bright Caldwell, Linda Haney, and nephew, Joe Turner; sister-in-law Anne Johnson of Greenville, SC and brother-in-law Homer C. Turner of Atlanta, GA.
Throughout her youth, Gin was an accomplished dancer, and graduated from Oakhurst High School, Charlotte. She worked at Lewis & Holmes Freight Co., where she met the love of her life and husband. She was an active member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, Charlotte, for more than 50 years, where she and her husband were charter members of the W. J. Edwards Sunday School Class. She was active in the United Methodist Women and other aspects of the church, and loved playing bridge regularly with her friends.
Gin was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Through her sweet and gentle spirit, she taught others by example of God’s selfless love.
Following a private burial, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church. Afterwards, the family will receive friends at a reception in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gin’s name to Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC and Hospice of Charlotte.
