Velma R. “Betty” Loftis, age 82, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, August 5th, 2023. She left Earth peacefully surrounded by loving family members. We are overjoyed to know she is now reunited with her parents, Mildred and Howard Rosenberg, as well as her son, Martin Leonard Anthony.
Born in Arkansas on February 19th, 1941, Betty's life was defined by her independent spirit, tenacity, and a deep conviction of dedication to family. After graduating from High School in 1958, Betty attended University in Hawaii and studied Fashion Design, in an era where only fifteen percent of women went to college. Upon beginning a family, she focused her efforts towards ensuring the constant provision for her children. Carrying on her mother’s legacy as a pioneer in women’s entrepreneurship, she primarily worked in businesses that she started herself, from accounting, co-owning Loftis Construction Co., to realty.
At the time of her passing, Betty was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where many dear and wonderful friends attend. Here, she volunteered her time to various needs. She particularly loved working with children - assisting in both Sunday school and VBS. She also assisted in various Church Offices when the need was expressed.
Betty found time for her own hobbies as well - for many years she continued to enjoy designing clothing, as well as sewing various items, including her own home's curtains and tablecloths.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Toni A. Giles, her husband Paul; three granddaughters, Lauren, Macy, her husband Nicholas, and Abigail; two adored great-grandchildren, Keagan and Stetson.
We all like to imagine that Nana is driving her Mom around heaven in a red Cadillac right now.
Mrs. Loftis’ body will lie in repose from 12 noon until time of service at 1 pm on Saturday, August 12th, 2023, at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC, with Pastor Scott Vail officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 211 Marvin Rd., Indian Land, SC 29707 – Attn: AWANA Missions Fund.
