Thomas Brown

Thomas McManus Brown passed away September 29, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He was born February 2, 1934 to the late Anna and Garfield Brown. He is preceded in death by his brothers James Brown and Franklin Brown, sister Helen Papa and grandson Derik Brown. Survivors include beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret Ann Hunter Brown, sons Thomas Brown (Marci) , Mitch Brown (Susan) and Mark Brown, daughter Patrice Gottcent (Tom), grandchildren Jesse Barge, Matthew Ellise, Micah Ellise, Brittany Brown, Megan Hodge (Ryan) and great grandchildren Adalyn and Raylan, in addition to numerous nephews and nieces. Tom proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After the war he returned to Charlotte, married the love of his life Margaret Ann Hunter and graduated with a degree from Kings College. Tom established two businesses in his lifetime; B & H Steel, followed by Thomas M Brown Inc in 1970, a respected and successful materials handling business that continues to flourish today.. Throughout his years, Tom faithfully cared for his family, church, Sugaw Creek Presbyterian, employees and community. He and Ann enjoyed many years of spending their time providing family and friends with priceless memories at their beach home on Topsail Island, NC. The family is grateful for the thoughtful care given to Tom during the past few years by Rose and Melinda. Tom will be remembered by his humor and wit, his loyalty and love for his family. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM at McEwen Funeral Home - Derita Chapel. Funeral will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:30 am, at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church 101 W Sugaw Creek Road, Charlotte, NC. Graveside service will be held across the street from Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church following the funeral.
