Mrs. Prince, 75, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on November 12, 2010 at Levine- Dickson Hospice House. She was born on June 16, 1935 in Charlotte, NC, a daughter of the late Paul and Nancy Glenn Cobb, and beloved wife of her late husband, William W. Prince.
Shirley graduated from Harding High School in 1953 and attended the Women’s College of UNC in Greensboro. During this time she met her husband, William W. Prince, who was a student at UNC-Chapel Hill. They married in June of 1955 and raised two daughters. After working 10 years as a church secretary, she went back to school at CPCC and earned a degree at UNC-Charlotte. She taught high school English for several years in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools.
A life-long volunteer, Shirley served Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and Girl Scout leader. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, writing and reading.
She is survived by her two daughters, Penny Love and husband, Max, of Charlotte, Pamela Zuercher and husband, Brian, of Cary, NC; grandchildren Paul Love and Evan and Claire Zuercher.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 2 until 3:30 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 15th at Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mount Holly-Huntersville Road, Charlotte, with the Reverend T. J. Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church Bus Fund, or Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman.
