Sheila L. Fisher

Born on August 5, 1933 in Columbus, Georgia, Sheila was a true Southern lady. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. At the ripe young age of 11, she began teaching dance and danced and sang for the USO troops visiting Atlanta. She graduated at the top of her Grady High School class just in time to meet the wonderful man of her dreams, Jerry Fisher. They were married in 1952 at the Ahavath Achim Synagogue. Three years later, they moved to Charlotte with daughter Nicki, added two perfect sons, Jeff and Neil, and established their permanent residence, a successful business and a loving family life.

Sheila was deeply involved in the Jewish Community, serving on the boards of Temple Israel Sisterhood and Hadassah with great passion. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She and her beloved husband Jerry were one of the first families to move to Raintree where, for the first time in her life, she became involved in golf – serving on the RWGA and even making her own hole-in-one. She loved to cook and was a talented artist who shared her beautifully crafted knitting, needlepoint and crocheted caps for friends, family and especially for women and children with cancer.

She is survived by her dear sister, Sylvia Bloom (Richard); daughter, Nicki and husband, Jonathan Gould; son, Jeff and wife Valerie; baby Neil Gordon and wife (Debbie); eight grandchildren, Diana Levine Smith (Brennan), Alyssa Levine, David Levine (Madison), Natalie Fisher Chetboun (Jonathan), Casey Fisher, Jamie Fisher, Zachary Fisher and Hannah Fisher; and two great-grandchildren (so far!), Logan and Emmett Smith.

The memorial service will be held at Temple Israel on Wednesday, April 19th, at 1:00 p.m., followed by graveside services at the Hebrew Cemetery. For shiva minyan information, please contact Temple Israel.
