Scott Troendly Pollard

Charlotte - Scott Troendly Pollard, 70, passed away August 4, 2020. He was born in Burlington, NC September 28, 1949. He graduated from Walter Williams High School as student body president; UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduate as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta Theta, and the Order of the Gimghoul; UNC-Chapel Hill law school in 1974.

Scott was a founder of his law firm Dozier, Miller and Pollard 41 years ago. It later became Dozier, Miller, Pollard and Murphy, and lastly Dozier Miller Law Group. He practiced family law and civil litigation, and was a member of the North Carolina State and Federal Bar Associations. He was rated 5 out of 5 peer review and AV Preeminent peer rating Martindale Hubbell, Legal Elite Business Journal 2016, and NC Advocates for Justice.

Although he loved being a lawyer and the legal community, he especially loved his two passions, tennis and reading. Scott was a gifted tennis player. He won dozens of state and southern titles.

He represented North Carolina and the South on many elite competition teams. But for Scott what mattered the most were the friendships he forged through the game. For 30 years, Thursday night was reserved for tennis with his good friends at Olde Providence Racquet Club.

Additionally, he had great friends and great tennis at the Charlotte Country Club and Roaring Gap Club. He always played in the club events, and won many of the club championships.

His other passion, reading, was serious. He read at every opportunity, early morning, mealtimes, sitting in a car, in bed, everywhere. His tastes were broad: Shakespeare, Faulkner, Greek Mythology, Art History, Perry Mason, and any number of children’s books. He read it all and collected it all. Used bookstores were his favorite haunts.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Calloway Pollard and Ruth Troendly Pollard, and his beloved brother, Harold Calloway Pollard, III. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia Hess Pollard; sister, Gayle Pollard Watson; sister-in law, Louise Brock Pollard; nieces: Tucker Petree, Elizabeth Welch, and Nell Johnson, who especially gave Scott her time, love and support, and their children. He also leaves behind his canine companion, Zoey.

Scott would like to thank the law firm, especially his paralegal, Cheryl Paxton, his childhood friends and the Phi Delta Thetas who supported him and remained a tight group, and his many tennis friends.

He was a great husband, well liked, well respected and well loved. He is playing tennis in heaven with his brother.
