Scott was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh for both his BS in Civil Engineering and his MBA in Finance. He was passionate about the work he did. He most recently served as Vice President of Finance at Xylem where he helped solve some of the world's greatest challenges associated with providing and protecting the world’s water resources.
Scott was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth A. Miller. The definition of soulmates, they enjoyed 39 wonderful years together, always making sure to find time every month for a date night. They found fulfillment in raising two strong daughters and caring for those they loved. Scott was a proud “Pops” to three grandchildren: Jordan (6) & Paige (4) Sundby, and Quinn (2) Walb, with a fourth on the way. Nothing made Scott happier than making a great steak to share with friends or family, paired with a delicious wine from his collection, endless stories from a life well-lived, and an after-dinner espresso.
He spent his retired years living life to the fullest. He loved traveling the world with Beth and travel friends– spending time on cruise ships and exploring cities all over the globe. When not traveling, he could be found spending time with his children and grandchildren– going on “woods-walks” to explore nature, dancing in the living room with his grandchildren in his hands, and building an avid collection of animal-themed hats to surprise his grandchildren with when answering their Facetime calls.
Scott joined the Palisades Country Club early on, where he found immense joy in golfing with friends. As someone who often acted like the glue that connected people throughout his life, he could be found organizing golf trips for friends, coordinating weekly breakfasts, and toting bottles to share in his golf bag, just in case.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edith “Dolly” Miller. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Miller, his daughters LeeAnn Walb (Matthew) and Michelle Sundby (Matt), as well as his grandchildren Jordan, Paige, and Quinn. He is also survived by his siblings, Debra Mackey and Doug Miller. He leaves behind many friends and family who will miss his joyful spirit, affinity for Crown Royal, and the way he made every situation a little more fun. Aligned with his lifelong track record of generosity, Scott gave the gift of life to others in his passing.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Home-Pineville at 11am. Immediately following, the family will be receiving guests and celebrating his life at the Palisades Country Club in Charlotte beginning at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Scott’s name to the American Heart Association. They also hope you’ll be inspired by Scott’s generosity to consider registering as an organ donor.
