A native of Hallsboro, North Carolina, Whit was a son of the late Baldie and Estelle Pope Pierce. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Whit retired as a truck driver after 33 years of service. He was a member of McLean Road Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Whit was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Julia Pierce; two sons, Sammy Pierce and wife, Jo Anne, and Paul Pierce; brother, Graham Pierce and wife, Doris; and four grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 pm Monday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 13, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Ron Helms officiating. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
