Mr. Rudolph Cribb, 98, of Charlotte, NC passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at home in Garner, NC. Born December 28, 1924 in Clarendon, Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late Boyd L. Cribb, Sr. and Lola Cartrette Cribb. He attended Williams Township High School. In lieu of military service, he was an aircraft mechanic-assemblyman for Glen L. Martin Aircraft Corporation in Baltimore, MD during World War II. Most of his working career was as an accountant and office manager for an electrical contractor, district manager in three states for a major paint company, and the last 22 years as a manufacturer’s representative until his retirement in July 1993.
Mr. Cribb was a lifetime member of the church of Christ, a devoted and active Christian, and tried to prepare his life for that better life to come. He was dedicated to the work of the church through teaching, preaching, and leadership. He served as a deacon for the former Plaza church of Christ and helped to establish the Westside church of Christ and the Charlotte church of Christ. He and the late Sam Binkley, Jr., also worked to establish the church of Christ congregation in Clarendon, NC (now relocated in Whiteville, NC). His greatest desire was to teach and help others to obey the blessed gospel of Christ.
He was married to Minnie Lee Christenbury, a native of Charlotte, on December 20, 1944. Had she lived one more week, they would have been married for 71 years. He lost Lee, the love of his life, who passed away on December 13, 2015. They were devoted to each other and loved each other more than anything else, second only to their love for God, His Son Jesus Christ and His Church. To Rudy, Lee was the most beautiful, caring, unselfish woman on earth, who always smiled and put everyone else before herself. They loved to travel and visited many states throughout the United States and took an anniversary cruise along the Pacific coast and Mexico.
He is survived by their loving daughter Judy Cribb Shuman of Garner, NC; grandchildren Karen Chadwick (Tony) of Raleigh and their children Brendan and Ashlyn Chadwick; Dena Capps Joyner of Garner and children Trevor Capps and Reece Capps and Easton Joyner and Garry Shuman (Jenna) of Angier and children Malin and Rohan Shuman and great great granddaughters Naomi and Willow Shuman. Mr. Cribb is also survived by sisters Linda Chambers (Ed) of Greenville, NC and Alwilda Merritt (Roger) of Montclair, VA.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers Boyd, Jr., Donald, Bernard and Paul Cribb; sisters Daphna Cribb, Margaret Gordon, Lola Gayle Weaver, Jennie Leona Cribb, and Peggy Williams; great granddaughter Blythe Kailee Shuman and son-in-law Jerry Shuman.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte, NC on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10am until noon. The funeral service will be held at noon in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service.
Officiating will be Rick Billingsley, minister of the Holly Springs Church of Christ, assisted by Lowell Boaz, Buddy Jacobs and Tony Chadwick. Pallbearers will be Trevor Capps, Reece Capps, Malin Shuman, Rohan Shuman, Brendan Chadwick and Tony Chadwick.
Interment will immediately follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
