Ruby A. Rushing

Ruby Auten Rushing, 78, of Mint Hill, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 13, 2022 in her home. Born July 10, 1944 in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of Johnny and Vertie (Johnston) Auten. She married Carlton Rushing on April 16, 1966.

A graduate of West Mecklenburg High School, class of ’62, Ruby was primarily a stay-at-home mother for her two children, Michael and Tonya. Throughout the years, she worked as a licensed cosmetologist, church secretary and a certified nursing assistant.

Ruby loved music, especially Gospel and Bluegrass music. Her passion for music led her to sing in various church choirs, where she was a member. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting.

She focused most of her time on family as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Affectionately known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, Ruby was always there for her children and grandchildren. Whether it was taking them to practice or games, cheering for them from the stands, attending graduations and other activities. Family was everything to her. She enjoyed family reunions and the holidays mostly because she loved cooking for her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carlton Rushing; children, Michael (Terna) Rushing and Tonya (Jeff Watts) Rushing; grandchildren, Tiffany Aycock, Taylor Aycock, Lillian Rushing, Natalie Rushing, Will Rushing and Nicolas Huntley; great-granddaughter, Ayva Adams; sister, Doris (Joe) Martin; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Melvin Auten; sisters, Aileen Rhinehart, Catherine Rushing, Thelma Plummer and Margie Dellinger.

Funeral Service 1:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2022 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. Visitation 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
