Born on a naval base to Earl & Joyce Charlton, he spent his childhood in California & Georgia. As a young man, Alan (as he preferred to be called) joined the US Army. He was soon stationed in Augsburg Germany where his wife at the time, Danita, gave birth to his cherished son Erik Jason Charlton. When he left the service, he earned his BA from Georgia Tech. Alan entered the banking industry in the IT department, working diligently until his retirement from Wells Fargo in 2016.
His love of family, faith & country was exceptional. Golfing and music was also a source of great joy for Alan. He played accordion and guitar (both acoustic and electric). Alan loved to laugh, make others laugh, and most especially to make children laugh. His kindness, generosity, loving spirit and sense of humor will be sorely missed in our lives.
He was deeply involved with the church and shared his passion for Christ at every opportunity. His spiritual calling included preparing studies and presentations for bible groups, sharing his faith with prisoners during visits to the prison, and much more.
Beloved son and cherished father, he is survived by both his parents Earl and Joyce Charlton, his son Erik Charlton, his brother Roy Charlton, Roy’s wife Melissa along with their children Roy Earl Jr and Melinda.
Loved and mourned by all who had the opportunity to know him, he will be remembered and celebrated for all time in the hearts and souls of his extensive network of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and church members. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.
