Born in Havre, Montana on November 7, 1942 to Edith and Homer Randolph, Ray spent his childhood in Havre and graduated from Havre High School. He married his high school sweetheart Gail Stromberg on July 1, 1962. They moved to Wolf Point, Montana where they raised their four sons. An astute and successful business leader, Ray headed Randolph & Son Builders, Inc., the construction company that his father founded in 1936. He was deeply involved in the industry and the community and was a devout Christian serving as deacon in the Wolf Point Presbyterian Church.
Ray and Gail moved their family and the business to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1986. He retired from the company in 2012 passing his vast expertise to his sons. Ray was also an avid sportsman. He was happiest when in nature, hunting, fishing, and golfing. Hunting elk, deer, and birds was his true passion, and he spent much time in the Missouri Breaks in Montana and in Chester, South Carolina. He shared that love of hunting and the outdoors with his sons and grandchildren, in the same manner his father had shared it with him.
Above all, Ray loved his family and built a truly wonderful life for them. Ray and Gail created a nurturing and loving environment for their sons, their daughters-in-law, and their ten grandchildren. They took pride in attending all their grandchildren’s events and valued frequent family connections. From hosting a festive week-long July Fourth celebration at Edisto Beach to creating a magical Christmas, they wove rich and beautiful memories into the lives of the entire Randolph family.
Ray’s strength, warmth, wisdom, and kindness touched many, and he leaves an enduring legacy. He will be missed terribly by his wife Gail; sons Chuck, Jeff, Greg, and Joel; daughters-in-law Dalinda, Camille and Arati; grandchildren Nicole, Danielle, Justin, Alyson, Chase, Austin, Katlyn, Blaine, Emily and Jonathan; grandsons-in-law Eric Burns, Jack Gantzer, and Christian Sanchez; and sisters Judi Allen and Sally Peck. He is preceded in death by his parents Edith and Homer Randolph and brother Richard Randolph.
