Phyllis Simpson Garner

She was born on August 27, 1947 in Lancaster, SC to the late Simmie Hazel and Myrtle Norwood Simpson.

Mrs. Garner was a graduate of Parkwood High School in Monroe, NC and an alumnus of Wingate College and Appalachian State University. She was a guidance counselor for the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system for 30 years. Phyllis loved her church and the Lord. She will be remembered for sitting on the deck, surrounded by her flowers, her children and especially her grandchildren, playing cards with her husband. Mrs. Garner loved her friends and belonged to several groups including the Canasta Group, Bridge Group and her Circle # 5.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Hazel Simpson, Jr.

Mrs. Garner is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gerald Garner; daughter, Ashley Blackmon (Nathan) of Waxhaw, NC; two sons, Jason Garner (Holly) of Wesley Chapel, NC and Benjamin Garner of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Carter Blackmon, Caroline Blackmon, Charlotte Blackmon and Zachary Garner.

Funeral services will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 17th of July, 2016 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227 with a visitation held from one thirty until service time.

Her Sunday School Class, the Philadelphia Class, will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Interment will follow in Unity ARP Church Cemetery in Lancaster, SC.

The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
