Philip David Drye (“Philip”) entered eternal life on Monday, April 4, 2016. His spirit lives on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, surviving sisters and an extended family of relations and friends.
He was an amazing man, husband, father, brother, son and friend who provided endless inspiration, guidance, humor and love to all who knew him. In WWII, he joined the US Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Stanton (DE-247).
Philip loved and was beloved by his wife Amelia Neal Helms who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents P.D. and Margaret Hall Drye, his sisters, O.D Drye Stinson, Leith Drye Stinson, Rae Drye Phillips, Joyce Drye Rogers and Shirley Drye McKechnie.
He is survived by son David Drye (Cathey), Chuck, Sheila Drye Matthews (Ken), Amy Drye Upchurch (Albert), eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and with two on the way, and four sisters, Irma Drye Heaton, Arlene Drye Surratt, Dorothy Drye Paxton and Peggy Drye Surratt.
The family extends a special thank you to his loving son Chuck for all the love and care he showed daily through these last years.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Stallings United Methodist Church, 1115 Stallings Road, Stallings, NC with an informal viewing at 1:00PM and a service beginning at 2:00PM. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn East, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Stalling United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1115 Stallings Road, Stallings, NC 28104. McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill, is serving the Drye Family.
