Peggy Louise Hopper Davis, 84, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2020 in her Villa at Sharon Towers. A Charlotte native, Peggy was born in 1936 to James McDaniel Hopper and Ada Louise Bowman Hopper. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dan Hopper, and her eldest child Christy Davis. She is survived by her son James Davis and son-in-law Jeff Pransky of Rockland, MA, her sister-in-law Cindy Hopper of Charlotte, NC, and several nephews and cousins.
Peggy was a proud member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and devoted to her faith. For much of her life she was an avid traveler and enjoyed sharing stories of her experiences and memories. While embracing the frivolity of globetrotting, she was also known for being a take-charge person, placing high expectations on all with whom she was involved.
Peggy was a staunch proponent of education. She obtained her RN from Presbyterian Hospital, BA from Queens College, and MA in Health Science Education from San Diego State University. As an officer in the U.S. Navy, Peggy Davis served as a Supervisory Charge Nurse at military installations in Japan, and the Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA where she initially settled to start her family.
Professionally, Peggy enjoyed an accomplished career. In the late 1970’s she started Total Care, Inc., a Home Health Agency that provided in-home nursing services. Initially founded in San Diego, Total Care expanded to Charlotte when she returned to the Queen City to raise her family. Peggy served as President and CEO until 1993 when she sold the enterprise. Total Care was the pinnacle of her professional career. She was exceptionally proud of her work and the special friendships forged with her colleagues. Her career honors include an honorable mention for “Business Woman of the Year” 1986, and being names as one of the NC Great 100 in 1990, honoring excellence in nursing.
Her family extends special thanks to the staff of Sharon Towers Home Health Care, Visiting Angels, and Hospice of Charlotte for their compassion to Peggy during her time of declining health.
Intimate Graveside Services for Peggy will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday August 25 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice
