Pearl Naomi Shealey

Pearl Naomi Singleton Shealey was born on May 17th, 1929 to the late John and Mabel Singleton on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina. She was the eldest of six children, four of whom preceded her in death.

After her father died, her mother migrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1941. Pearl joined her mother in New York in 1943. She received her high school education at Eastern District HS and graduated in 1945.

Pearl was a housewife and devoted mother to her three children. Pearl dedicated the majority of her life to caring for her eldest daughter Sylvia who was born with cerebral palsy. Sylvia preceded her mother in death in October 2014. Her husband Ronald Shealey Sr. preceded her in death in September 2021.

At a young age, Pearl sought God for herself and became a member of Bethel AME Church on Wadmalaw Island. She later joined People’s Institutional AME Church in Brooklyn, NY under the leadership of the late Rev. M.D. Birk. Pearl was an active member and served on the Usher Board and Floral Ministry until she relocated to Charlotte, NC at 89 years of age.

In Charlotte, NC Pearl joined the Shamrock Senior Center. She enjoyed participating in the activities there and made many friends. On the evening of August 12th, 2023 Pearl took her eternal rest.

Pearl leaves to mourn: her daughter, Yolanda Miley of Charlotte, NC; her son Ronald Shealey (Dornetta) of Cambria Heights, NY; her brother, John Singleton (Alice) of Tampa, Fl; her two grandsons Andre Purnell (Monique) of Charlotte, NC and Rongereck Shealey of Brooklyn, NY, three great grandchildren (Malique, Andrea, Ajae) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will take place at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte on Friday, August 18, 2023 beginning at 1pm. Funeral Service will follow at 1:30pm. Interment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.

God saw the road was getting rough.

The hills were hard to climb.

He gently closed those loving eyes

and whispered, “Peace be thine.”
