April 9, 1936 – January 24, 2024
Ms. Nancy Loella Smith Jackson, age 87, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Loella was born and raised in the south side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Brentwood High School and earned her RN at West Penn Hospital School of Nursing. After living in several locations as far flung as Germany and Stockton California, Loella relocated to Charlotte in 1967 where she raised her three children. She worked many years at the Wesley Nursing Home and several other nursing homes along with doing private duty nursing.
Loella had a happy and fulfilling life with many interests. She was very active with the Shepard Center when it existed. She enjoyed bridge, several book clubs, as well as knitting and recorder groups. She traveled regularly to Pittsburgh to visit with family and long-time friends. She was always up for a new adventure and willing to help her family and friends in any endeavor.
Loella passionately supported her sporting teams. She particularly enjoyed the new Charlotte Football Club and the Carolina Panthers where she had an original PSL. She also retained her love of the Pittsburgh teams – the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. She especially loved seeing shots of her beloved Pittsburgh that would be shown during the games.
Loella is survived by her three children, Judy Whitesell (Graham), Sharon Woodworth (Tal Sizemore), and Jimmy Jackson (Randi), her four grandchildren Sam and Amy Whitesell, Cole and Balay Woodworth, and her sisters Joanne Santucci and Susie Bevard. She was preceded in death by her parents A. August Smith and Anne Scott Smith.
Following Loella’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your favorite charity.
