Michael Joseph Morabito, 64, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Charlotte, NC on February 16, 2017.
He was born in Auburn, New York, the oldest of three boys, on February 9, 1953. He graduated from Auburn High School and went on to earn a business degree from Empire State College. After a brief time living in Seattle, Washington, he returned to Auburn where he owned and operated an Italian delicatessen and later went to work for NYNEX in Syracuse. He and his family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1987, through NYNEX and remained there until 1989 when they moved to Charlotte.
The day after celebrating his 64th birthday, Michael retired from a 30-year career in software sales that included leadership positions at companies such as Intel, Dell, Corporate Software and ASAP Software. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, completing home projects, playing piano, and most importantly, spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann (DiCola) Morabito, he is survived by his son Nathan Morabito (Kristen) and daughter Christan Turner (Brian), all of Jonesborough, Tennessee; grandchildren Natalie and Carmelo Morabito and Ava Turner; mother, Ida Morabito, and aunt Philomena Carnicelli, of Auburn, New York; brothers John Morabito (Darlene) and David Morabito (Patti), all of Auburn, New York; an uncle, nieces and nephews, godchildren and cousins; and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Nate J. Morabito, who died in 2011.
Visiting hours will be held at McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Road, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 6-8 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.
