Born on August 13, 1942 in Naha-shi, Okinawa, she was the daughter of Kosa and Kane Gushikan.
Masako met the love of her life, John, while he was stationed in Okinawa serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. There, they had their first child, Tina, and then relocated to Charlotte, NC. After moving to the United States, they were blessed with two more children, Sharon and “Tripp”. Mari was an extremely devoted wife and mother.
She was passionate about her cosmetology career, and overcame a lot of obstacles to be successful. She was dedicated to her clients until their last days.
Mari was a member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoying lunch dates with friends, gardening, Elvis, and going on long walks with her dog “Henry”.
Mari was known as everyone’s tiny sweetheart, “Grandmother”, her amazing back scratches, her green thumb, her sense of humor, and fun loving personality. She truly loved everyone she met and loved to tell them stories about her husband and family.
Left to mourn her loss are her devoted children Sharon (Tim) Rochester and John (Darya) Suddreth; precious grandchildren John Poe, Christin (Shane) Langston, Sydney (Nick) Barnhill, Savannah Suddreth, Salym Suddreth, Cameron Michael, Alyson Michael, Kendal Rochester and great grandchildren Marlie Lester, Keely Roberts and Leland Langston.
Mari was preceded in death by husband John Henry Suddreth, Jr and daughter Tina Suddreth.
Funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2pm in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. The family will greet friends starting at 1:30pm. Burial immediately following the service at Sharon Memorial Park.
