Mary Anne Medearis Troutman, 92, died peacefully on December 31, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 28th, 1930 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Dr. William Fields Medearis and Helen Elizabeth Lethco Medearis. Mary Anne was a native Charlottean who attended Charlotte Country Day School (part of the founding class), Holton Arms in Washington, DC, and Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.
She met her future husband, John (Buck) Atwell Troutman, in Blowing Rock, North Carolina where her family had a beloved mountain home. She and Buck married on September 16, 1950 in Charlotte.
Mary Anne loved art, gardening, music, history, and literature, travelling extensively domestically and internationally to explore these passions. From an early age she was a gifted piano player and a voracious reader who also built an extensive book collection including some first editions. She was a long-time supporter of the Mint Museum, Friends of the Mint, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and Opera, Queens College, Charlotte Museum of History, Charlotte Country Club, Charlotte Debutante Club, Wing Haven, and the Junior League. Mary Anne was also a member of the North Carolina Terpsichorean Society Debutante Ball.
Mary Anne is survived by her three children: Jaime Northey (David), Stuart Troutman (Callie), and Lisa Troutman (Parker Russell); her grandchildren, Caroline Russell-Troutman, Joe Troutman, and Campbell Russell-Troutman; and her brother Bill Medearis (Liz).
Services will be private for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Hospice and Palliative Care.
