Mary Neville Holder went to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 19, 2014 with her family surrounding her. Born in Columbia, SC on June 5, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Mary Culp Neville. Mrs. Holder moved to Charlotte when she was a small child and attended Irvin Avenue Elementary and graduated from Sharon High School. She worked at Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, where she was one of Charlotte’s original meter maids until she retired. Mrs. Holders was a member of East Avenue Tabernacle Church, which merged with Craig Avenue ARP Church.
Mrs. Holder will be remembered as a beautiful lady with a great sense of humor, who loved her Lord and Savior most of all and loved her family dearly, especially her mother, father, sisters and brothers. She enjoyed baking and reading her enormous collection of books.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, January 25th at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. John E. Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
Mrs. Holder is survived by a daughter, Gail Honeycutt and husband, Larry, (who was like a son to her) of Matthews; a son, Jim Holder and wife Kim, of Lake Norman; three brothers, Leon Neville, of Claremont, Lonnie Neville and wife Judy, of Wilmington, John Neville and wife Phyllis, of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Kim Jarrett and husband Steve, of Charlotte, Melanie Gann and husband Jerry, of Midland; five grandsons, Jim, Jamie, Carey, Brett and Dallas Holder; four great-grandchildren, Magan Pinzon and husband Calos, Cody Gann, Emily Jarrett, Mark Jarrett and a great-great granddaughter, Ava Pinzon.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her husband James Vortiman Holder, Sr. and two sisters, Jean Cook and Margaret Bowers.
