November 17, 1931 - January 3, 2023
Mary Frances Beaver Holshouser entered the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on
January 3, 2023.
Frances was born on November 17, 1931 to Irene (Miller) and George Robert Lewis Beaver in Rockwell, NC. She was one of 11 children. In September 1951, Frances married the love of her life, Philip Ray Holshouser. In 1956, they moved to Charlotte to make their home and raised three children.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband Philip Holshouser. They were married 68 years before his passing in 2019. Frances is also preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Thelma Bost, Merle Yerton, Gray Lentz, Ruth Lyerly, and Jackie Bernhardt; and five brothers, Carl Beaver, Guy Beaver, George Beaver, Gene Beaver, and Bobby Jo Beaver.
Frances is survived by her three children, Steve Holshouser of Concord, Sherri Wolfe (Flynn) of Charlotte, and Shelly Hefner (Daniel) of Concord. She is survived by grandchildren, Candace Woodward (Jeff), Cynthia Holshouser, Stephanie Turner, Samantha Muqtasid (Jordan), Houston Hefner (Maddy), Cayce Atkinson (Tyler), Darynne Rhinehardt (Collin), Jeffrey Wolfe, and Buddy Wolfe (deceased). Frances is survived by great grandchildren James, Ben, Hope, Samantha, Annabelle, Jason, Jacob, Henry, Colton, Sawyer, Shay, and Hayleigh. Frances has numerous in-laws, nieces/nephews, and great nieces/nephews, whom she loved very much. She always knew she was so blessed with a large family.
A beautiful person both inside and out, Frances was a southern lady at heart. She was known for her Sunday dinners which always included family and friends. She loved to cook and loved to feed her family.
Frances was an elementary and middle school Charlotte-Mecklenburg Cafeteria Manager for 32 years. She believed a full belly led to a full heart. Frances believed it was an honor and a privilege to feed others. She was notorious for not eating until others ate first. At 91 years old, she still tried to share food with her dining companions.
Frances loved the Lord, and to many at Derita Presbyterian Church, Frances was “Nana”. She was known as the cook behind the ever-so-popular church dinners. Nana served as a cook at many church functions, her children’s church trips, and then at her grandchildren’s mission trips. She served as a children’s Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Nana loved her church family.
Nana, we will miss you dearly and will always know you loved each one of us “a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck!” You were everything a mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor, and friend that anyone could ever want. You were simply the best! We love you forever!
So Papa, slide over on that heavenly beach swing, and make room for “Hanky”. She has a snack for you and some sweet iced tea!
A special thank you to St. Andrews Assisted Living Center, and Hospice & Palliative Care of Lake Norman. A very special thank you to caregivers Martha Whitehead, Bobbie Whitaker, and Virginia Strickhouser. What a blessing you have all been to our mother!
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Derita Presbyterian Church, 2230 Sugar Creek Road W., Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Andrews Assisted Living Center, 246 Cabarrus Avenue W., Concord, NC 28025, or Derita Presbyterian Church, 2230 Sugar Creek Road W., Charlotte, NC 28262.
