Margaret M. Thompson

Born October 7, 1928, in Shelby, North Carolina, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Vernon C. and Lena Maxwell Mason.

Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Laurel Hill High School in Laurel Hill, North Carolina, and Appalachian State Teacher’s College in Boone, North Carolina. Following graduation from college, she entered the teaching profession for which she completed 37 years, mostly in Mecklenburg County and Mint Hill areas.

She was married to Herbert E. Thompson, whom she met in college. They made their home in Charlotte until retirement in 1986, at which time they relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida. While in Daytona Beach, she was very active in First Baptist Church. She served with the library and Great Sunday School Class, along with FAITH team.

In 2003, they moved back to Mint Hill and returned to Idlewild Baptist Church, where Mrs. Thompson was a charter member. She was also the oldest member. Mrs. Thompson strived to serve her church well.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Wayland Thompson and his wife, Evola, of Norwood, North Carolina; her special niece, Gina Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina; her god-daughter, Lanette Crowe and her husband, Rocke; and wonderful friends, Larry and Jeanette Williams, all of Charlotte.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to Trust in the Lord, which was Mrs. Thompson’s life motto.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Thursday, October 20, 2022, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, with The Reverend Michael Cummings officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
