She was born August 11, 1937 in Sylva, NC to late Ruby Holland and Oscar Gates. Margaret married at 17 and settled in Charlotte, NC at 18 after she graduated high school. She immediately learned to drive because she loved to be independent. She attended Kings Business School and enjoyed working in finance and accounting before starting a family. She retired at age 67 and relocated to Belmont, NC.
Margaret was a loving mother. She loved the beach, was an avid reader, and loved shopping. Even with macular degeneration she managed to keep up with sports, politics, and local news. She had a special bond with her grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her son, Jeff Stines; her daughter, Cindy Stines Cibo and husband, Jerry Cibo; two grandchildren Whitney and Jacob; sisters Jean Hooks, Carolyn Sue Stiles and Mary Lou Green; her half-brother, Alvin Gates; special nephew Tim Stiles; a special niece Amy Turner; and Gary and Michael Hooks.
An intimate family viewing and service was held on Friday March 12, 2021 at 10AM at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel in Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers or donations Margaret would want everyone to put down their cell phone and pick up a book to read. Reading is knowledge. She always said, “Keep your life simple”. “If you botch up raising your children nothing in life will matter. ”You can look in a Bible to find anything about life.”
