I was born on December 28, 1920, the second of five children born to George W. Green and Odessa McKinley in Charlotte.
My walk with God started at age 8 at Little Rock A.M.E. Zion Church. My schooling began at First Ward Elementary School. I graduated from Second Ward High School in 1938. My schooling continued at Harlem Hospital School of Nursing in New York City.
I was married to the late Willis A. Harris Jr. and blessed with two wonderful children who have blessed me with four awesome grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
After retiring, I did extensive traveling throughout the United States and Europe. I later joined First Baptist Church West when my health began to fail.
Some of the various church, civic, and community organizations that I participated in are: Little Rock A.M.E. Zion Church (Sunday School Teacher and missionary work); Life member of Alpha Pi Chi Sorority Inc. (Alpha Alpha Chapter); Emeritus Member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and Homeless programs; the Charlotte Organizing Project (CHOP), to abolish red-lining; Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Program; Mecklenburg County Council on Senior Aging; Second Ward High School Alumni Association; and Charlotte Crop Walk.
I am survived by my two children, George (Bonnie) Harris and Sandra (Reginald) Wilson; four grandchildren, Eric Phillips, Candace Harris, George Harris Jr., and Ryan McClain; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Eddie Harris Scott; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the Paul Helton Chapel at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
