Lynne was born on March 10, 1959, in Charlotte, N.C., to Lindsay Dayton Gamble and Beatrice Yeaman Gamble. Lynne graduated from Myers Park High School in 1977 before studying business & criminal law at Central Piedmont Community College. Her mother was the Reverend’s daughter, and naturally she was raised as an active member in the Southern Baptist Church.
Lynne fell in love, after high school, to an amazing man and the love of her life Paul Holliday in 1984. They enjoyed an extremely fulfilled marriage that included travels around the world and raising their two beautiful children – daughter, Kayla, and son, Colby. Lynne helped Paul start his successful roofing business, Absolute Construction & Roofing, Inc. that is still proudly owned and operated by the family. Lynne found a way to balance an incredibly successful career, while keeping her family and faith at the forefront of their family decisions. Her strict Southern Baptist upbringing guided her family values through all of the seasons of life, keeping her faith at the forefront of her family’s upbringing. She was adored by so many and impacted countless lives.
Lynne’s success in business and passion for excellence can be traced back to her first jobs after graduating high school. After acquiring experience from Richmond Brothers, Co. (bookkeeper) and Sears Credit Central (Credit Investigator / Collection Coordinator), she was hired for a position at General Electric Capital, where she began work as a Senior Collection Coordinator in the Financing Division – receiving numerous accolades and awards. After being awarded the GECC – Woolco – Collection Award (6 times) in her first year at GE, she accomplished a collection effectiveness score which had never been reached by any other collector in any of the GECC Woolco Divisions. As a result, she was quickly promoted to GE’s Lowe’s Division, where she then achieved the best collection effectiveness percentage in the entire Lowe’s Division. The following year, in 1983, she accomplished an unprecedented feat by zeroing out her unit – collecting every account with a portfolio of $22.5MM two months in a row (receiving the GECC – MHFD – Employee of the month Award twice back to back). As a result, her division celebrated her feat by dedicating a new work holiday on her behalf to honor her unparalleled work. From there she was promoted to a management position overseeing customer service and received the GECC -MHFD – Management Award.
Her success in the corporate world was vast, but after the birth of her daughter, Kayla, she came upon an opportunity that would allow her the flexibility to be at home with her children while also succeeding in her career. It was this opportunity that provided an incredible turning point in her life. Lynne took her experience from her previous jobs, and absolutely infectious and caring personality into her new entrepreneurial passion. Lynne quickly moved into a leadership position as an Independent Sales Director with Mary Kay. This new position allowed her to inspire and teach so many others around her. For years, she worked energetically, with selfless compassion and an infectious attitude that inspired so many others around her. In 2004, she earned her status as a National Sales Director in Mary Kay – the highest position within the company. Her success with her business in Mary Kay provided her family opportunities to travel around the world, take vacations to their family beach house in Charleston, SC, and of course drive the iconic Pink Cadillac wherever she went.
Lynne officially retired as a National Sales Director in 2020, celebrating on stage with her family. Her retirement, allowed her to spend ample time with her two grandchildren, Bodie and Ella who lovingly refer to her as “Shug.”
Lynne was a woman who was larger than life. A truly humble and selfless person that inspired thousands of people throughout her lifetime. She loved to make others laugh and celebrate others’ accomplishments. She made excuses for nothing and was determined to accomplish everything. A truly amazing woman in so many ways.
Lynne is survived by her two children, Robert Colby Holliday of Charlotte, N.C. and Kayla Holliday Lamar and her husband Tommy Lamar of Charleston, S.C.; brothers-in-law Henry L. Holliday III of Charleston, S.C. and Robert J. Holliday of Folly Beach, S.C.; nephew John Holliday of Charleston, S.C. and niece Faye Holliday. She is preceded in death by her parents, nephew Robert (Bobby) Holliday of Charleston S.C., brother-in-law John L. Holliday of Charlotte, N.C., and husband Paul L. Holliday.
