Mr. Lineberger was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1938. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and served in the United States Air Force during World War II, where he was a radio operator for the B-17 Bomber. Mr. Lineberger was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from Procter & Gamble after 27 years of service. He was a charter member of Providence United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Charlotte Tennis Club, where they dedicated a court to him, “Papa Bear”, of the Bad News Bears.
Mr. Lineberger was a true southern gentleman. He spent the last 17 years of his life on the family farm caring for horses and helping with outdoor projects. He loved God and his family, music, dancing, nature and animals, and the sport of tennis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Grice Lineberger; grandson, Khan Lineberger; and sister, Barbara Lineberger Winchester.
Mr. Lineberger is survived by his daughters, Jan Lineberger Young, Lynda Lineberger Andrews and husband Greg, and Meridee Lineberger Floyd and fiancé Jim Worley; grandchildren, Melissa McDougall, Matt Floyd, Rob Floyd, Karen Lineberger, Jennifer Young and Jamie Young; great-grandson, Kody Lineberger; and great-granddaughter, Sloane Young.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th at Harry and Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Sharon Memorial Park.
