Mr. Rudisill, 86, passed away May 19, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital after a brief illness. He was born August 30, 1925 to the late Elma Green Rudisill and Lawrence F. Rudisill, Sr.
Mr. Rudisill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he was a gunner on the Navy ship USS Sierra. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 380 and served as Commander for a short time. He was also a member of the Voiture 40-8.
Following his military service, Mr. Rudisill had a very successful career as a long haul truck driver using the handle of “Silver Dollar” as he drove the roads for Akers Motor Lines and Chemical Leman Tank Lines. He was a faithful member of First Wesleyan Church and secretary of the Crusaders Sunday School Class.
Remembered as a dignified, loving and caring father and grandfather, Mr. Rudisill is survived by his children, Billy Rudisill (Connie), Kathy Sokolowski (Tom), Gloria Allison (Richard) and Larry Rudisill (Pat); eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; as well as his companion of thirteen years, Patricia Dilling.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 51 years, Mary Alice Rudisill; a daughter, Carolyn Rudisill; and a son, William Calvin Rudisill; and a sister, Shirley Wilson.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Rudisill will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23rd at First Wesleyan Church with the Reverend Robert Allred officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Mr. Rudisill’s family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
