Charlotte - Laverne C. Gallant, 74, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 25, 1942 in Lenoir, NC to the late Dwight Cheek and Agnes Church Cheek.
Laverne attended the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, NC and completed two years of business school. She was a member of Abundant Life Lutheran Church, The National Federation of the Blind, Charlotte Bridge Assoc., and was a former Sunday school teacher. Laverne enjoyed playing bridge, walking on the beach, playing the violin and piano, and singing.
She was a mother full of love and understanding and was a spiritual woman with a strong faith in God, and she loved Jesus Christ. Her favorite stories from the Bible were psalms. Laverne was a great bridge player, and through work with The National Federation of the Blind, volunteered speaking to school children in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System raising awareness for the blind.
Laverne is survived by her children, all of Charlotte: Camille Gotta and husband Joe, David Gallant and wife Sheri, and Anna Gallant and fiancé Joe Frey; granddaughters, Amber Gallant and Abbey Gallant; and grandson, DJ Gallant.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 16th in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. A visitation with a reception will follow the service.
