It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Williams, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on December 6, 2024. Born on November 25, 1933, in Mint Hill, North Carolina, Larry was a lifelong resident of the area and known for his love for the Lord, generous spirit, warm heart, and a life full of dedication to his family, his faith, and his work.
Larry grew up on a farm that now sits at the location of Independence High School. He attended Bain High School, where he had many fond memories and made lifelong friendships. At the age of 21, he married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Gladden, and together they built a life of love and devotion, celebrating nearly 70 years of marriage.
Larry was a talented craftsman with a gift for construction. He spent his early years working alongside his father-in-law at WK Gladden Construction Company, where he learned the fine art of building and even assisted in constructing his own home. Later, he worked in accounting for the Singer Company for nearly 20 years, where he became a respected member of the team and built lasting relationships with colleagues. Larry then went on to work for Newco before spending the remainder of his career as a regional manager at Orders Distributing Company, a wholesale floor covering company. In this role, he was known for his exceptional leadership and strong relationships with both his employees and customers, earning their trust and admiration over many years.
Outside of work, Larry had a deep passion for classic cars and spent many years restoring and owning them. He was a true enthusiast, and his love for vintage automobiles was more than just a hobby—it was a lifelong passion that he passed on to his grandsons.
Above all, Larry was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord. He was an active and devoted member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church, where he served as music director for many years. His love for the Lord was evident in all that he did, and he faithfully served his church while working full-time, using his beautiful voice and musical talents to for the glory of God. His heart for ministry and service left a lasting impact on the church and its members.
Those who knew Larry will remember his infectious smile, his hearty laugh, and his warm, welcoming hugs. He never met a stranger, and his kindness touched everyone he met. His laughter was truly contagious, and his ability to bring joy and light into the lives of others was unparalleled. Whether he was building something with his hands, restoring a classic car, singing a hymn, or simply sharing a story, he had a way of making everyone feel valued and loved.
Larry was a devoted husband to Jeanette for 69 1/2 years. Together, they raised a loving family, and he was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished his daughter, LaNette, and her husband, Rocke, as well as his grandchildren, Daniel, Melody, and Ryan. His faith, his love, and his example of hard work and kindness will live on in their hearts and in the many lives he touched over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; his daughter, LaNette (Rocke); his grandchildren, Daniel, Melody, and Ryan; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Simeon Williams; his mother, Ola Mae Williams; his sister, Gladys Phillips; and his brother, Bill Williams.
A visitation for Larry will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, 6624 Wilgrove Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wilson Grove Baptist Church, Samaritan’s Purse or Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in his memory.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. But we take comfort in knowing that he is completely healed and in the presence of the Lord.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
