Charlotte - Mrs. Noel, 84, passed away on December 5, 2014 at Carrington Place. She was born on March 6, 1930 in Charlotte, a daughter of the late William R. Alexander and Mary Esther Edwards. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Noel; sister, Mary Ross Huggins; brothers, William Ross Alexander and George Lee Alexander.
Kathryn was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Kit”. She graduated from Harding High School in 1948, and worked for many years as a bank teller for NCNB and Bank of America, retiring in 1990. Kit met her husband Stanley on a blind date at the Valentine’s Day Dance at Belmont Abbey in 1954. That encounter resulted in a love story that lasted for 42 years.
Kit enjoyed family, friends, and was especially known around the education community as the beloved crossing guard at St. Ann’s School and Park Road Elementary School from 1966 to 1973. She was dedicated to her role in ensuring the students’ safety, both to school and home at the end of the day. She will always be remembered for her quick and dry wit, her ever ready smile, and genuine love for all who knew her.
A gifted baker, Kit was well known for her fresh coconut cakes, which she provided in times of joy and sorrow to friends and strangers alike. She also enjoyed the company of her family, playing cards, going to the beach, gardening, cooking, and especially decorating her home for Christmas Holidays.
Kit was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for many years. She lived the remainder of her senior years at Carrington Place, where she was deeply loved and cared for by the staff.
Kathryn is survived by her five children, Frances R. Smith (Ellett) of Vienna, VA, Stanley E. Noel, Jr. (Diane) of Durham, NC, Karen R. Noel of N. Bethesda, MD, Joseph K. Noel of Alpharetta, GA, and William C. Noel of Rockville, MD; six grandchildren, Jason, George and Lauren Smith, and Stanley III (Tres), Megan, and Alexander (Alex) Noel.
