Kathy was born on January 31, 1943 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to the late Eugene and Mary Heckman. She graduated from Grass Lake High School. Kathy married the love of her life, Gary Hughes, in Saline, Michigan in 1963, where they had two sons, Scott and Kevin.
Kathy and Gary were avid golfers, often traveling to the Carolinas to play various golf courses. They moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1984. Kathy loved to read, garden, and cook. There weren’t many recipes she wasn’t willing to try and, of course, add her own flair.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Gary, and her brother, Jim. Surviving family members are sons Scott (Rhonda) and Kevin, and cousins Lota Jones and Susie Sullivan. The family would like to extend special gratitude to longtime friend Brita Almond and her family for the love and care they showed Kathy for over 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to VIA Health Partners (Hospice).
