A memorial service to celebrate Kathleen’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 4, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service- Mint Hill Chapel with Rev. John M. Boulware officiating. Visitation is 1 hour prior to service. Inurnment will take place at the Salem Cemetery, Winston-Salem, NC on May 5.
Kathleen was born on November 24, 1939 in Winston-Salem NC, daughter of Howard F. Rhoads Jr., and Martha Abigail Nance Rhoads. She graduated Harding High School, Charlotte NC in 1958 and was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. In the 1960’s, she worked at Efirds department store in downtown Charlotte and as an account specialist at the Humble Oil Company. She was an avid lover of music, playing the glockenspiel and piano. During the 1970’s she was a homemaker and served as a pianist/organist and Sunday school teacher for Matthews United Methodist Church. During the 1980’s she was a Girl Scout Troop leader and began work as Transportation Specialist at the Portrait Corporation of America (PCA) International in Matthews, NC, where she retired in 2004. She enjoyed cross-stitch, oil-painting, gardening, travel, cooking, canning, and having quiet conversations on the porch.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Grady C. Sellers, of Chesterfield SC; son Kerry B. Humphries, of Stanfield NC; daughter Cynthia H. Sturgis, of Black Mountain NC, daughter Catherine S. Boulware and husband John, of Plattsburg MO. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren. Mrs. Sellers is preceded in death by her first husband Mr. Bruce Humphries and daughter Connie D. Sellers.
