Joyce Brooks Moore

Born in Anson County, NC on Sept. 4, 1933, a daughter of the late James Alonzo and Bessie Meigs Brooks, she was class Valedictorian of the 1951 class at Peachland High School. After graduation she worked for Southern Bell. Later she was employed by Exxon serving in the Charlotte area and later moving to Houston, Texas. She finally retired after many years from Celanese.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Caleb "Butch" Ballard, her second husband, William Moore and a sister, Shirley B. Lowe.

Survivors include 3 sisters, Jewel McCumbee of Shalotte, NC, Dorothy B. Brown of Matthews, NC, Margaret B. Hough and husband, Bill of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Wayne Brooks and wife, Peggy of Harrisburg, NC; 15 nieces and nephews, Tim McCumbee, Mike McCumbee, Kay Smith, Lori Elliott, Carole Piver, Linda Varnam, Eric McCumbee, Beau Brown, Gail Brown, Susan Jenio, Sharon Walters, Shannon Brooks, Jason Brooks, Kenny Lowe and Philip Lowe; 5 step-children, Linda Pelletier, Karen Melchionni, Holt Moore, Michelle Groce and Michael L. Moore and many more great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are planned for 1:30 pm Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Oakgrove United Methodist Church, 6440 Old Statesville Road, Charlotte, NC 28269, with Pastor Bob Symanski officiating. Friends may visit at the church from noon till the time of service on Tuesday.

Burial will take place in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
