John Lee Wakefield

He was born on February 4, 1948 in Gainesville, FL to the late Arch and Margie Schultz Wakefield.

John proudly worked at Wakefield Optical, his family owned business, for over 44 years. He enjoyed traveling to Germany, spending time outdoors, plants and all genres of music. He was very active as a Troop Leader for the Boys Scouts of America.

John is survived by his two daughters, Sarah Wakefield Curlee (Daniel) and Amy Wakefield Towery (Geoffrey); brothers, Richard Wakefield (Jenny), Mickey Wakefield (Sabine) and Matthew Wakefield (Lynne); former spouse and close friend, Sherry Price.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Morgan Alecia Wakefield and brother, William “Billy” Wakefield.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227 with a visitation held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Boy Scouts of America Mecklenburg County Council at www.mccscouting.org or to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
