Born July 10, 1944, he grew up in the Thompson Orphanage in Charlotte with his 2 brothers, Milton and Jim. He then went on to get an engineering degree from NC State before moving around North Carolina and Tennessee before returning to set roots in Charlotte.
He married the love of his life, Ida Mae in 1969.
He worked in industrial sales and owned his own company for almost 50 years, refurbished multiple cars, raised multiple mischievous beagles, made clocks, pens, bookshelves along with other woodworking marvels, and even found time to build a boat at one point in time. But his biggest achievement was raising two boys into the men they are today, with strong character and work ethic.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ida Mae Hopkins; children, John Jr (Tiffany) and Mike; one beloved granddaughter, Alexia; his favorite pup Lucy all of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by both brothers, Milton and Jim.
There will be a small immediate family service per his wishes.
