John retired from UPS with over 30 years. He was a deacon at Hickory Grove Baptist church and was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran. John’s greatest passions were his family, church service and his love of the beach. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
John leaves behind the love of his life, his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley; and his children, Connie Lankford (Randy), Linda Biggers (Chris) and JD Friend, Jr. (Pam). He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his seven grandchildren and 16 great grands.
A visitation for John will be held from 10:00 am until 11:30 am Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Harris Campus Worship Center, 7200 E. WT Harris Boulevard, Charlotte, North Carolina 28215, with a funeral service following at 11:30 am. Dr. Joe Brown and Dr. John Harrill will officiate. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking on the link below. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, North Carolina.
