Jack, 88, a proud Charlottean, died peacefully on February 15, 2015. Born on June 15, 1926 in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late John Edward Crowley, Sr and Mary Elizabeth Crowley. Jack attended O'Donahue Grade School, Belmont Abbey Prep School and the University of South Carolina. Jack loved his country and understood the meaning of honor. Jack served in the US Navy in World War II aboard the USS Philadelphia. Jack had a long career in textile sales and developed several US Patents in the cotton waste industry. Jack was made for sales. He loved to engage in conversation and never met a stranger. Jack was a peaceful man with a big heart and a great sense of humor. A charter member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, he was a devout Catholic and served with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Knights of Columbus for many years. From the beginning to the very end, Jack was surrounded by his family. He was a wonderful, loving father to seven children and grandfather to 17 grandchildren. His family was his legacy.
He is survived by his true love, best friend and wife of 58 years, Rose Mary Browning Crowley. He was devoted to his children: Ann Browning Crowley, Prudence Crowley Kornegay, Katherine Crowley Dickson, Sean Reed Crowley, Elizabeth Crowley Rudder, Michael J. Crowley, Patricia Crowley Smith; Adored grandchildren: Kate, Mary, Anna, Caroline, Matthew, Rebecca, Scott, Rose Mary, Michael, Sally, Katherine, Jack, Gibson, Christopher, Lyla, and Henry, was preceded in death by John Edgar Kornegay. Jack is also survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth Crowley Eggleston, brothers Thomas Joseph Crowley and William Smith Crowley; sister-in-law Ann Todd Crowley, sons-in-laws Timothy Gray Kornegay, Christopher Scott Dickson, Robert Martin Rudder, Gibson Locke Smith and daughter-in-law Joyce Ginn Crowley; niece and nephews: Marion Crowley Scherger, Todd Edward Crowley and Daniel Michael Scherger.
Jack's generosity and loving spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Jack's family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19th from 6 until 8 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28210. We will celebrate his life with a funeral mass on Friday, February 20 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC, 28210, with Father Mark Lawlor.
