On Saturday, May 28th 2016, John F. Crane, age 92 of Charlotte, went to join his wife of more than sixty years, Betty Sue Mauney, in the kingdom of heaven with our lord Jesus Christ. He passed after a brief illness with his family at his bedside. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Reverend Billy Towery and Reverend Phil Turner officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Crane was born January 21, 1924 in Marvin, N.C., Son of the late Frank Ernest Crane and Bessie Perry Crane. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War Two and later as an electrical contractor, working on many public buildings in the Charlotte area. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He actively enjoyed his retirement, years as a loving Husband, Father, Grand-father and Great Grand-father, and was an avid gardener and woodworker.
Surviving are Sons, Frank Sidney Crane and wife Joyce of Charlotte, and John Kevin Crane and wife Karen of Clover, SC; Grandchildren, Jason Crane, Leisha Crane and Emily Crane; five Great Grand-children and Sister Cornelia Plyler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Crane and five sisters, Catherine Rea, Tina Kistler, Betty Evans, Margaret Butler and Louise Payne. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
