

Joann was the youngest daughter of the late Early Smith Stafford and Rosa Jane West Stafford. She is survived by her loving daughters Barbara Purdie (John), Bonnie Harris Haubach (Jack) and Billie Jean Cole (Mike). Known affectionately as “Grannie” she is survived by 9 wonderful grandchildren and 13 exceptional great-grandchildren. Joann is preceded in death by her devoted daughter, Betsy Kirby and her son-in-law, Kenneth Harris. She was widowed in 1958 upon the death of Charles Black Kirby Jr. Joann is, also,
preceded in death by all her siblings Easley, Belvard, Eugene, Alvin, Thomas, Wilson, Harry, Elizabeth, Paul, Rennie and Robert.
Joann enjoyed many decades working in the personnel department of Bank of America in Charlotte.
One of her greatest joys was hosting family gatherings celebrating birthdays, Christmas Eve and Easter.
In her life Joann developed an unwavering love, faith and trust in the Lord. She was a happy member of Matthews United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
The family of Joann wishes to express their great appreciation to the excellent staff at White Oak of Waxhaw, the remarkable nurses at Atrium Health Union and the compassionate caregivers with Atrium Health Hospice and
Palliative Care Union.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 31,2025 at McEwen Funeral Home at Sharon Memorial Park at 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC at 2:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Chuck Wilson. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm prior to the service.
