Mr. Gwaltney, age 92, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at his home. Born June 15, 1920 in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Charlie Judson Gwaltney and Bell Troutman Gwaltney. Mr. Gwaltney served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired as laundry cleaning specialist/sales of American Dry Cleaning after 45 years of dedicated service. Mr. Gwaltney was a charter and faithful member and former deacon of Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
The service to celebrate the life of J.C. Gwaltney will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service with his nephews, Reverend Henry Cook and Reverend Charles Cook, officiating. Entombment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his son, Reverend John Charles Gwaltney and wife, Kaye, of Wallburg; daughter, Kay Morgan of Harrisburg; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gwaltney was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Rowe Gwaltney; son-in-law, Kenneth Morgan; and all ten of his siblings.
