Janet Rhodes Valentine, 64 of Charlotte, died November 30, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center, Mercy. Born on October 2, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Jennie McCain Rhodes of Charlotte.
Janet was born in New Rochelle, New York and lived in Mt. Vernon, New York until 16 years ago when she came to Charlotte. She graduated from Shaw University receiving a BA degree and later obtaining a masters degree from Fordham University. She worked at Mt. Pleasant Cottage School in New York as a diagnostic unit counselor and later as a social worker in the same school. In Charlotte, she worked as a head teacher at the Child Care Network Center.
She was a very loving and devoted daughter, sister and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Geraldine Rhodes Goodlett of Mt. Vernon, NY; Deborah Towns and faithful husband, Gregory, of Maplewood, NJ; nieces, Arleen Shields of Mt. Vernon, NY, Daha Towns and Brieem Towns both of Maplewood, NJ; 8 grand nieces and nephews, 2 great grand nephews and 1 great grand niece and many cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her niece, Robin Goodlett.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service.
The funeral and burial will be held in Mt. Vernon, New York at a later date.
