James Brooks Thomas, aged 68, peacefully passed away on March 9th, 2024, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He entered this world on June 21st, 1955, in Charlotte, North Carolina, welcomed by his parents, Charles "CC" Thomas and Winnie Colson. James held the middle position among his siblings; he leaves behind his brother, John Thomas and sister, Kay Thomas.
Fond memories of youthful escapades with his brother, John, linger on, as James spent his formative years working alongside his father in the family construction business. His unwavering commitment left an enduring imprint on North Carolina, evident in his ability to recall nearly every building, development, or roadway he graded or for which he laid concrete.
Enrolling in Military School alongside his brother at a tender age, James gained not only cherished memories but also a profound respect for the armed forces. After graduation, he seamlessly combined his diligent work ethic with a fervent passion for building hot rods and motorcycles. A relocation to Colorado in 1995 provided him with opportunities to explore the scenic wonders of the west, before eventually returning to the Charlotte area in 2008.
James embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, welcoming his sons, Jason Thomas in May of 1986 and Liam Thomas in April of 2003. Transitioning from the thrill-seeking pursuits of his youth, he found solace in traveling with his sons, taking long drives through the countryside, and his deep-rooted faith. He secured employment as a superintendent with Advance One Development, a landfill gas company, following the economic downturn of 2008. His interests matured into a fervent appreciation for Civil War history, marksmanship, and an enduring fascination with motorcycles.
Renowned for his old-fashioned yet genial sense of humor, James epitomized unwavering faith and diligence. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion, cherished by all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
A service is scheduled in his honor for 2:00 pm Saturday, April 13th at the McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, located at 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Brain Tumor Association on his behalf.
