James Michael Dura of Mint Hill, NC passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the age of 76. James was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 11, 1943 to the late Michael and Helen Dura. He lost his battle with the COVID-19 virus.
James met the love of his life, Patricia Jastrembska, and they were married on Feb 12, 1966. They were married for 54 years and had three children who will all miss him dearly -Michele Dura (George) of Orlando FL, Karen Schneider (Dave) of Mint Hill, NC and Jason Dura (Deanna) of Charlotte, NC. He also had four grandchildren who were his pride and joy – Dylan (16) and Noah (13) Edwards, Zach Schneider (14) and Jack Dura (7).
James had a long and successful career in the battery industry. His career allowed him to see a lot of different parts of the country – Philadelphia, PA; Richmond, KY; Clemmons, NC; Augusta, GA; Hawley, PA; Bristol, TN and then back to NC in Charlotte where he retired.
James had many passions in life. The top three would be family, lottery and fishing. He loved spending time with family, playing the machines and the blackjack tables in Cherokee, and spending the day on the fishing pier trying to catch that big one. James “Poppy” taught us many things – work hard and always give everything 110%, don’t take yourself too seriously, and be able to laugh at yourself. He was known as the family jokester and was always willing to do what it takes to make people laugh. He enjoyed watching sports – whether on TV or live when his grandchildren were playing.
His immediate family will be celebrating his life in a private ceremony on December 7, 2020. Condolences may be offered online at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.
