Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia, his father, Ed, and his sisters, Caroline Beierschmitt (Dennis) of Richmond, VA and Margie Dolson of Indianapolis, IN. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Michele Miller Day, and his two sons, Addison (Laura Beth) and Shaffer (Caroline). Additionally, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Luanne Day, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Jim was born to Edward Roy Day II and Dr. Virginia Armstrong on August 1, 1961, in Norfolk, VA. On any given day, Jimmy could be seen riding his bike, racing his matchbox cars, or playing four square on Massachusetts Avenue in Colonial Place in Norfolk. Jim played football and delivered papers and was a proud graduate of Maury High School. After graduation, Jim went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Stationed in Korea, Jim brought home many stories of his time on the DMZ with his Army buddies. Following his time in the Army, Jim had saved enough to enroll at his beloved Virginia Tech. Upon meeting the love of his life, Michele, only a few days before graduation, the two were married in December of 1989.
Jim and Michele moved to Washington D.C., then to Birmingham, and finally to Atlanta where they began their family. Following the birth of their first son, Addison, they settled in Charlotte, NC. Just four years later, they welcomed their second son, Shaffer, into the world. They quickly made Charlotte their home and joined Providence Presbyterian Church, where Jim served as Head Deacon and was an active member for over 35 years. Though Jim’s priority was being a reliable father and husband, he also flourished in his career as a salesman, making connections and friends all over the East Coast and ultimately earning the title of “Salesperson of the Year” on numerous occasions.
Despite being an avid golfer and boater, Jim’s greatest joy in life was his family. Jim dedicated himself to his loved ones and friends. Whether it be a Boy Scout event, a football game, or an awards banquet, Jim was always there to show love and support to his wife and sons. Jim rarely failed to make an impact, and he will be incredibly missed.
